EGO SNT2122 Review: 21 in Battery Single-Stage Snow Blower Kit

Making snow clearing a push-button chore on an ordinary paved driveway. There is no gas, oil, spark plug, pull cord or carburetor, and the quick-fold handle stores it in a corner of the garage. EGO's 42-foot throw is long for a single-stage; many gas single-stage machines list 20 to 25 feet.

The warranty is the second strength: 5 years on the tool and 3 years on the batteries is long for a $699.00 machine. The batteries also run every EGO 56V tool, so a mower or leaf blower owner gets double use from them.

For a 24 by 24-foot driveway a 21-inch path needs about 17 passes and 9 minutes of moderate snow at a steady pace, only about a minute slower than a 24-inch two-stage. EGO's 10-car rating, roughly 2,000 sq ft of 8-inch snow if you count 200 sq ft per car, is about three clearings of that driveway on paper.

It is a single-stage, and the limits of that design are fixed. The 13-inch clearing height means it cannot swallow a compacted plow berm in one pass; you nibble at it in shallow bites or shovel it. Storms well over 8 inches take multiple passes at reduced depth.

Gravel is the second limit. A single-stage auger works close to the surface to scoop and throw, so on loose gravel it can pick up stones and throw them. EGO says its adjustable skid shoes improve operation on gravel and uneven terrain, but the safer rule for gravel is a two-stage machine such as the EGO SNT2405. If you must use it on gravel, raise the skid shoes, clear only when the base is frozen and aim the chute away from everything.

Finally, the included 4.0Ah batteries are small. Heavy, wet snow shortens runtime noticeably, and a single-stage auger is the part that pulls the machine forward, which tires the batteries on wet snow.

EGO's listing states a 5-year limited tool warranty and a 3-year limited battery warranty. Keep the receipt and register the tool with EGO. Battery tools carry no engine emissions certification; look for a UL or ETL mark on the battery and charger labels.

Check the CPSC recall database at cpsc.gov/Recalls for this model before buying, and before buying used. Store and charge batteries indoors at room temperature, never on a cold garage floor overnight before a storm, and keep them away from flammable materials.
