Husqvarna TS 375XD Review: Differential Lock Lawn Tractor

The TS 375XD is best at mowing and towing on large properties where a standard tractor spins a wheel. A differential lock locks both rear wheels to turn together, so when one tire loses grip on damp grass or a soft spot, the other keeps pushing. Normally a differential lets the wheels turn at different speeds so the tractor corners without scuffing turf; the lock is engaged only when you need traction.

• Traction when it counts. Helpful on damp ground, gentle grades and when pulling a loaded cart, always within the manual's slope and towing limits.
• Kawasaki FR V-twin. The same 24 HP, 726cc engine family found on Husqvarna's MZ zero-turns, with torque for a 3-blade deck in thick grass.
• Fabricated deck. Welded from heavier plate, so it resists damage from roots, stumps and rough ground better than the stamped deck on the TS 140X.
• A tractor's versatility. Front-wheel steering, towing and easy handling for occasional drivers.

The biggest drawback is paying a premium for capability many lawns never use. On a flat, dry 2 acre lot, the Husqvarna TS 140X 54 in. Lawn Tractor mows at the same 1.7 acres per hour with the same deck width for much less. And a tractor is still a tractor: on flat ground a 54 inch zero-turn finishes 3 acres about 33 minutes sooner.

A differential lock is also not a slope rating. It improves traction but does nothing for rollover risk, and a locked differential makes the tractor resist turning, so it must be disengaged before you turn. The thin listing is a further weakness: it does not state the transmission, fuel capacity, ground speed or warranty, all of which you should confirm in the manual at this price.

• Your lawn is flat, dry and under 2 acres; the Husqvarna TS 140X 54 in. Lawn Tractor or Husqvarna TS 120 46 in. Lawn Tractor costs far less.
• Speed on flat ground matters most; a zero-turn such as the Husqvarna MZ54 54 in. ClearCut Zero Turn Mower is faster with the same engine.
• Your slopes exceed the manual's limit; no traction aid makes that safe, so mow them with a walk-behind across the slope.
• You want gas-free mowing; the EGO POWER+ T6 TR4204 42 in. Electric Lawn Tractor is a battery tractor with a hitch.

Warranty: the listing does not state warranty terms. Ask Husqvarna or the dealer for the consumer warranty on the tractor and the Kawasaki engine coverage, and confirm how commercial use is treated.
